Join us in an outdoor watercolour ‘paint out’ en plein air in the city. En plein air is French for “in the open air” where you paint what you see and capture the colour and light of the moment. It Is most associated with the French Impressionists.
This is not only a competition but an opportunity to be part of a group who will have their artwork mounted, displayed and if you would like, to have it for sale. The paintings will be displayed around the city in a number of shop fronts for three weeks to create an “art trail” that will lead people to another wonderful event. This is a forerunner to the WSWA International Exhibition being held at Central Park from Monday 10th June – Friday 21st June. We invite all watercolour enthusiasts to join us!
The city landscapes are many and varied. You will have streetscapes, café scenes, old and modern buildings, traffic, gardens and people from all walks of life to choose to paint. The elements on the day may dictate your subject and if the winter weather shows itself, there is shelter around the city where you can set up and look out to paint the landscape. We encourage you to seek shelter that will enable you to complete your painting if the weather threatens – but plein air artists capture the weather, the light and the “feel” on the day.
This competition includes a very generous First Prize of $2,000 and Second Prize of $1,000. Both prizes are acquisitional.
Each artist entering will recieve a gift bag containing all sorts of lovely watercolour goodies. Plus vouchers for 10% discount at Gramercy Bar & Kitchen.
