Plein Air Competition

Throughout Perth 9.30am to 1.30pm
Payment: $20 per artist (free entry to IWEx exhibitors)

Registration: from 9.30 -10.00 am at Central Park outside in the park, a desk will be set up near the revolving doors. (Central Park, 152-158 St George’s Terrace or walk through the park opposite Wesley Church)
Paper: Each artist will be given 1 x half sheet of stamped, watercolour paper (may be used as half or quarter sheet as long as the stamp is on the paper- suggest the stamp be on the back) and an exhibition bag.
Completed painting: Must be returned to Central Park by or before 1.30pm on Friday.
Judging: will take place between 2.00 and 3.00pm
Prize-giving: will take place at 3pm Friday 31st May at WA Visitor Centre 55 William St Perth.
Prizes : First Prize $2000, Second Prize $1000 – First and Second Prizes are acquisitional.
Artist details: please write your name, phone number and email address, the title and price of your work on the back of your completed painting
General rules and conditions:
- This is a plein air Competition which means all entries must be the entrant’s original work of art created, started and completed by the entrant while outdoors, in Perth, during the Competition hours.
- The use of cameras, ipads, mobile phones etc is discouraged except to record your finished artwork. Painting from any means, away from the actual subject, is not allowed and will disqualify the entry.
- The Competition is open to all. Those 15 years and under are to have guardian supervision.
- The definition of watercolour as laid out by the Constitution of the Watercolour Society of WA will apply:
“A painting is deemed to be a watercolour when water is the vehicle for mixing and applying colour pigments. Any water based medium may be used in the recognized watercolour techniques with the exception of water soluble acrylics, oils and pastels.”
- Only one completed painting per entrant will be accepted for judging.
- The paintings will be on display and for sale around the City of Perth creating an ‘arts trail’ until 21st June.
- A commission of 25% will apply to all paintings sold.
