Jane Li
Jane Li comes from Beijing China, and is an international artist currently based in Perth, Western Australia. Jane has always had an interest in art from a young age. While in China she studied Chinese fine art and Chinese calligraphy under famous Chinese master painters Tian Han 田寒and Li Zhe 李喆 and has continued to do so while in Australia via her masters webinars and goes back to China for group classes with her masters. Jane is best known for her detailed wild life art and her traditional Chinese fine art paintings. Jane draws inspiration from her surroundings, especially native wildflower parks and Kings Park Botanic Gardens in Perth. Her botanical sketches are used by herself and her fellow volunteer guides at Kings Park when leading guided walks. She has held art workshops for various organisations, not only locally but also in Victoria Park, Dunsborough, Narrogin, Beverley, and Manjimup, as well as for Amy Art in South Perth, WA Museums, and other venues. Jane’s creativity extends beyond painting. She is a 4th Duan Tai Chi instructor and, in 2013, achieved the 6th highest ranking in Yang style Tai Chi at a competition in Beijing, China. She believes Tai Chi has taught her patience and steadiness of hand, enabling her to create the fine, smooth brushstrokes that define her work. Jane was commissioned to illustrate a children’s book, now available on Amazon, and to translate Faith of Our Fathers from English into Chinese. She creates exquisite watercolours and traditional Chinese artworks, and is also known for her botanical sketches, woodblock printing, and pyrography. Specialising in traditional Chinese fine art on silk and Xuan paper — a delicate paper made from the bark of a special elm tree — her Gongbi works, known for their meticulous detail, are highly sought after. A selection of her works can be viewed at www.janeliart.com and on Facebook at facebook/janeliart. Jane has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows. Highlights include receiving “Highly Commended” at the WA Watercolour Society Annual Awards in 2018, followed by First Prize in the General Category in 2019. In 2018, she shared a wildflower-themed exhibition with a photographer, sponsored by the City of Kwinana. She was invited back in 2019 and 2020 for solo wildflower exhibitions as part of Kwinana’s annual wildflower celebration. In 2021, she exhibited at Kooliney Art Centre and became a finalist in the Rockingham, Belmont, and Gosnell Art Awards, also receiving “Highly Commended” at both the Pinjarra and Cossack Art Awards. In 2023, she received the Excellent Award at the Oriental Charm International Art Exhibition. Her artist residencies include Beverley Station Arts, Narrogin, Kings Park Aspect, Goldfields Art Centre, and Manjimup. She has also led popular workshops on painting birds, dumpling making, and Tai Chi, often alongside her exhibitions. As the president of Oriental Culture and Art Western Australia she organized and curated the group exhibition at Victoria Park Centre for Arts in 2025. Jane was invited to exhibit at the WA Museum Boola Bardip from Saturday 5 July 2025 to Sunday 22 February 2026.
Jan Pittman
Jan Pittman is an active member of the Watercolour Society of WA, BASA and AGRA. Jan paints in the botanical art style, and has won many prizes. A keen traveller, Jan has enjoyed recent trips to China, Italy and India with the WSWA for exhibitions, and remote parts of Scotland and its islands, and Scandinavia, where she has painted and drawn people, castles and scenery. Living on a large bush block in Gidgegannup, on the outskirts of Perth, with hundreds of wildflowers found nowhere else on Earth, gives her plenty of material to paint. Jan recently helped to organise a botanical art exhibition in Perth at the Holmes a Court Gallery. Jan was a finalist in the inaugural Splash Award for Contemporary Watercolour, and has won many prizes (including Best In Show) at local shows and exhibitions. Former Premier of WA, Colin Barnett, used images of her paintings (of Nuytsia floribunda and Eucalyptus erythrocorys) for two of his Christmas cards. Jan teaches at a number of local facilities, including at her own home.
