Renata was born in Broken Hill, NSW, and has lived in many parts of Australia, particularly the outback. Her early artistic influences were the illustrations in children’s books, especially those that portrayed the insect world as thriving town and communities (which may be why she is now painting spiders)! She also used to watch her father carving designs into leather and these designs still pop up in the backgrounds of some of her paintings now.
Although she wanted to study graphic design when she left high school, she was encouraged to learn “something more reliable” so she did an office course instead, however she never lost her love for art, and enrolled in many courses, including oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, pottery and drawing.
After many years of juggling office-based work with her art, she is now following her dream of being a full-time artist. She enjoys a happy combination of painting for herself and teaching others how to paint too. Her watercolours have won several awards and many have found overseas homes. In April 2019, she opened “The Orange Palette” which is a small art class business in Wangara (in the northern suburbs of Perth), and continues to teach others to paint a variety of subjects whilst pursuing her special theme of spiders and their homes.
