Originally from Windsor, UK and emigrating to Western Australia in 1989, Susan enjoyed artistic pursuits such as painting, pottery, and photography during her early years. A career in Personnel Recruitment, marriage and children meant that she didn’t pick up a paintbrush again until 2001 when she enrolled in Watercolour Painting classes with the TAFE “Life-Long Learning” scheme in Wanneroo, WA. Painting with watercolours has been a life-changing experience – the challenge, the beauty and the versatility of this medium have become addictive!
Her inspiration comes from a huge variety of situations but especially from the ducks and chickens that roam around the family property, trips to visit family in the UK, anything weird and wonderful and the wildlife and coastline of Western Australia. She loves sharp contrasts – dark and light and the drama of shadows. Attending workshops throughout Western Australia, New South Wales, Italy and Tasmania has provided a constant source of new approaches and techniques.
Susan is an award winning artist who has been published in the Australian Artist Magazine. She has been involved in large and small group exhibitions locally and her paintings and commissions are represented in private collections in Australia, Italy, Japan, China , New Zealand, France and the UK.
Susan was accepted into the Watercolour Society of Western Australia in 2008, was Secretary for four years and is now in her fourth year as President. She is co-founder of the Ocean View Art Group who meet weekly and hold regular exhibitions and is also a member of the West Australian Society of Arts.
