President’s Report

What a year! Some of what we have we done…..

We have had 5 new venues, The Inglewood Hub for our general and committee meetings, IWEx 2024 at Central Park and Perth City Farm for the AAE. The storage facility was moved from North Freo to Embleton.

Members have had 4 opportunities to exhibit with the society this year: Size Matters at the Maritime Museum, IWEx 2024 at Perth Central Park, the Annual Awards Exhibition at Perth City Farm and Pantechnica Gallery in York at the end of the Getaway.

Members have had the opportunity to buy finished and unfinished IWEx frames. Also to attend a panel discussion on the importance of framing from various points of view.

The opportunity to compete in a plein air competition, held at the start of the IWEx and to attend a 2 or 3 day workshop with Australian watercolourist John Lovett during the IWEx.

The annual portraiture competition at the AGM was well attended with Eudes Corriea as the judge.  Followed by a demonstration from him.  Members had the opportunity to attend a 3-day master class with Eudes at the Maritime Museum.

Peter Allan and Stef Hayward hosted a stall at the Arts Hub to promote the society.

In response to the big survey, we initiated and welcomed the friends to the Friends Program.

We have invited Carl Altmann and Dennis Kickett to become patrons and they accepted and join Ken Michael as Patrons for our society.

The children’s prize has been initiated and is on our website for groups to apply for.

Carl Altmann invited us to the Lester Exhibition for an insightful floor walk.

For guest hour, we have viewed our collection of watercolours, had Polla Posavec talk about her practice, and we had an interactive hour. This involved members moving from station to station learning how to resize paper, mat board cutting, IT help, phone photography and social media help. Anastasia Wright, Jane Li and Jude Scott gave a demo each. Penny gave a portraiture talk encouraging everyone to enter the Lester and other exhibitions.

Thank you to the members for embracing all the changes, this helped the committee accomplish so much this year.  Thank you to the committee for all their hard work this year and thank you for all the support shown to me as I continue to learn this role.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

Keep the brushes wet!  Jane
