WatercoloursWA Annual Getaway 2021

This is the suggested itinerary—partners are welcome as are fellow artists who want to join us to paint. Most afternoons are left free for you to do your own thing.

Friday 22 October

6.30pm Meet at The River Hotel, 40 Wallcliffe Road for dinner. #

Saturday 23 October

10am The Old Settlement,69 Bussell Highway, Margaret River.

Parking at the Rotary Walk across the footbridge to the settlement. Lovely old buildings. Morning tea available at the Hairy Marron Café, which is right there.

There is also a lovely walk along the Margaret River up to Barrett’s Weir where there is a lake. There are heaps of things to paint along the river or at the weir.

1pm Lunch at the River Hotel, 40 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River # 

 

Sunday 24 October

10am  Redgate Beach, Redgate.

Lovely beach set amongst beautiful coastal dunes and ancient granite boulders and rocks. Great surf in the right weather conditions. Good parking but may be an idea to car-share as it is a Sunday and if the weather is good. Bring your own morning tea.

12.30 Lunch at the Yardbyrd Café, Witchcliffe.   #

(This may change if the Boranup Café has opened)

 

Monday 25 October

10am Ellensbrook Homestead, Ellen Brook Road, Margaret River.

Built in 1857 by Ellen and Alfred Bussell and managed by the National Trust.

An interesting old homestead with great views, set on a hillside with access to the beach which has a fine garnet red sand.  Lovely walk and subjects to paint along the river. Bring your own morning tea.

12.30 Lunch at Ollio Bello, 36 Armstrong Road, Cowaramup (just off Cowaramup Bay Road).  

Also opportunity to paint the olive trees and farm machinery here. Lovely gift shop. #

Tuesday 26 October

10am Cowaramup 

A cute area that most of us just pass through on the way to Margaret River! Lots of quaint village shops to visit and/or paint and there is a Pioneer Park with a cute little church. Several places for coffee etc

12.30 Lunch at the Cowaramup Brewing Company, 229 Treeton Road North, Cowaramup #

Wednesday 27 October

10am  Arthur’s Farm  1/344 Arthur Road, Rosa Brook

Lovely old sheds, farm stuff etc and a tour around the farm (sheep and cattle) if wanted. We will supply morning tea (bring a mug!)

12-12.30 Arthur Wines, 314 Manear Road, Rosa Brook 

For a tasting of Natasha’s fortified wines – Glass Slipper white port, Ruby Slipper red port and a barrel aged muscat. This is another part of Arthur’s farm with more lovely views.

1.00 Lunch at the Berry Farm, 43 Bessell Road, Rosa Glen # 

Thursday 28 October

9am Boranup Forest.

Early start to get the morning light—one of the best SW places for beautiful trees. Tanya Izzard will be there to take videos. Meet at Caves Road viewing area just past Giants Cave on the left.

12.30 Lunch at the River Hotel, 40 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River # 

2pm Life-drawing session at Jenny Sanderson’s Studio, 61 Heron Drive, Margaret River.

$20 per person fee to cover the model fees and afternoon tea. Bee hives, horses next door, loads of trees and bushes etc for those who don’t want to do the life drawing. #

Friday 29 October

10.30am Anniebrook Farm, 247 Wildwood Road, Carbunup River  

It’s just off the Bussell Highway if you are on your way home.

Great stop for morning tea, (they do the best scones and home-made pies) and opportunity to sketch farm buildings, visit the guinea pigs, chooks or their flower barn which has silk flowers, gifts, clothing etc.  Numbers required for booking #
