Biography

ImageBorn Sydney 1946.  Susan studied Art and History of Art during her high school years at Pymble Ladies College in Sydney and Art was one of her successful intermediate certificate subjects.

In 1968 Susan moved to Perth, married, had two children and established a business.  In later years when living and working in the Nannup shire, Susan spent several years doing folk art painting, attending a few interstate workshops and also doing a little teaching.

It has only been since Susan and her husband Ray’s retirement back to Perth at the beginning of 2004 that she has had the time to develop her love of art.  In Susan’s first year she experimented with oils.  Susan’s mother and aunt, both watercolourists, encouraged her to try watercolours.  Susan and her mother booked to do her first watercolour class together at the beginning of 2005. Mother fell and broke her hip, so Susan went on alone to classes and has not stopped since!

April 2007 Susan was accepted as an associate member to the Watercolour Society of WA.  This enabled her to attend meetings and with the encouragement and support of members she re-submitted in May 2008 when she was accepted as a full member.   In August 2007 Susan became the society's secretary and took over the maintenance of the website.

Susan’s love of flowers has influenced her choice of subjects for painting but she is gradually widening her horizons and thoroughly enjoying the journey into the world of watercolour.

Susan is a member of the WA Society of Arts, Alfred Cove Art Society and the Melville Community Arts Association.
