Biography

Image I commenced painting in watercolour in 2003 and participated in various courses: Drawing and Sketching Swan TAFE. West Coast: Painting Watercolours at Perth College of Art. In 2004 I enrolled in classes with Gillian Peebles learning the techniques of watercolour and more classes with Penny Maddison to learn the skills of Plein Air landscapes and still life.

I was born in Perth and educated at Nedlands Primary School and Scotch College. My father was a farmer who moved to the city. I have always enjoyed visiting the family farm which has provided me with a background in farm and country painting. As a city boy I developed a love of sailing both on the river and ocean and have continued to sail in ocean races. The water has been a large part of my life and features in many of my paintings along with both sailing and power yachts. I have dabbled with watercolour painting for years but became serious about watercolour landscapes in 2003.

I very much admire and am influenced by the works of Australian artists Joseph Zbukvic, David Taylor and Western Australian artist Ian De Souza who have a loose impressionistic styles similar to the English Artist Edward Wesson and American artist Edgar Whitney. I have paintings displayed at ROCS of Rossmoyne, Heathcote Gallery, Bencubbin Cafe, Byramgou Park Winery Donnybrook and continuous exhibitions with the Alfred Cove Art Society and at the Atwell Gallery and annual exhibitions with the City of South Perth, York Art Society, City of Stirling Exhibition, City of Victoria Park Exhibition and the Watercolour Society of WA.

I am a committee member of the Melville Community Art Association and the Watercolour Society of WA and a member of the Alfred Cove Art Society and the West Australian Society of Arts.
