The Second International Watercolour Exhibition Fremantle

 

The Watercolour Society of Western Australia has had a great relationship with the City of Fremantle for many years.  We are again pleased to hold our 2nd International Watercolour Exhibition in the historic Moores Building.  Top watercolourists from 15 nations will be exhibiting their work for two weeks and excitingly, they will not be behind glass, so you can get up close and personal, see the brush strokes and flow of paint and marvel at the different styles and techniques.

Countries exhibiting are: Australia (Societies from Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales), Belgium, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, The Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain and Vietnam.

Plus paintings from 6 invited top Australian Guest Artists including Joseph Zbukvic, recent recipient of the Plein Air Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award.

150 paintings will be exhibited with many different styles, showing the soft and gentle, the bold and vibrant, sweeping landscapes, magical portraits, energetic abstracts, still life and more.

Venue:       The Moores Building, Henry Street, Fremantle

Dates:        Saturday 11th – Sunday 26th June

Opening:   Friday, 10th June.  The Mayor of Fremantle will open the exhibition

Globally acclaimed watercolourist, Joseph Zbukvic, will be guest speaker

Exhibition:

  • 55 paintings from the Watercolour Society of WA
  • 92 paintings from International and Australian Watercolour Societies: Belgium, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Vietnam, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales
  • Most paintings will be for sale and may be purchased unframed or framed

Activities:

  • Leading Australian and globally acclaimed artist, Joseph Zbukvic, will hold 6 workshops during the first week.
  • Lisa Wang, one of Australia’s brightest young stars, will hold a 3 day Master Class workshop
  • Free workshops will be provided by Winsor & Newton during the two weeks
  • Members of the Watercolour Society of WA will hold instructive workshops throughout the two weeks
  • A Plein Air competition will be held on Saturday 11th June throughout Fremantle – you just need to paint with watercolours to take part! See our website for details
  • 1st prize $2000 (acquisitive), 2nd prize $1000 (acquisitive), plus many other prizes donated by local sponsors
  • The competition will be judged by Joseph Zbukvic and Lisa Wang

Catalogue:

  • All exhibited paintings will be published in full colour in a catalogue which will be available to purchase during the exhibition, both printed and digital
  • Each attending artist and Watercolour Society member will receive a catalogue
