I was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia now Harare, Zimbabwe - a once beautiful, prosperous country. I spent my school years at the Dominican Convent and was always drawn to art and all that it entailed. I met my Australian husband during the Rhodesian war and because of his involvement in the military, we moved with our two daughters, Melanie and Sarah to South Africa early in 1980. I had my third daughter, Rebecca in Pretoria and we immigrated to Australia several years later.
With my husband'’s work taking him away for all but a couple of months each year, I was too busy with domestic life to pursue my art. That changed once my children were older and I gradually became more and more involved in the art world. My favourite medium has always been watercolours... I love the clean, transparent feel it allows and the challenge it presents. I began exhibiting through the Wanneroo Arts Society and couldn’t wipe the grin off my face for a week, when I sold my first painting for $150! I have taken numerous courses over the years here in Perth and have even embarked on teaching at Community Centres, which was very rewarding and great fun. I have exhibited in local and regional exhibitions annually for many years now and have also held a solo exhibition, at the Oceanic Restaurant, City Beach. Late last year I held a successful joint exhibition at the Tresillian Community Centre Nedlands. Over the years, I have won several awards and these include: 1999 Mindarie Art Award First Prize Watercolour 2004 Pastel Society of WA Highly Commended Pastel 2007 Wagin Woolarama Second Prize Watercolour 2008 Wagin Woolarama Second Prize Watercolour 2010 Wagin Woolarama Second Prize (Small Painting) Watercolour 2010 Wagin Woolarama First Prize Watercolour 2010 Beverly Art Award Highly Commended Watercolour I have had the opportunity to travel to Bathurst in NSW on three occasions studying watercolours with Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic and Charles Sluga. I have also been able to do several workshops with Herman Pekel here in Perth which have been highly informative and great fun. Last year I was lucky enough to travel to Kenya with my husband for a safari, which was extremely exciting and reminded me of why I love Africa so much. I haven’t yet painted any scenes from our trip but maybe one day …..
