Susan was born in Reading, England and always enjoyed artistic pursuits such as painting and pottery during her school years. A career in Personnel Recruitment, marriage and children meant that she didn’t pick up a paintbrush again until 2001!
In 1989, Susan migrated to Western Australia with her husband and two small children, settling near Guilderton in the Gingin Shire on a hobby farm—the dream of many English migrants. The wonder of the intriguingly different Australian birdlife, wildlife, trees, shrubs and flowers re-kindled her desire to follow artistic pursuits including pottery and ceramics. Following a move to the northern suburbs, in 2001 Susan decided to enroll in a TAFE Lifelong Learning class at the Wanneroo Community Centre to learn how to paint using watercolours. This has lead to not only a hugely satisfying hobby, but has also provided a circle of lifelong friends. Together with fellow painter, Annette Stone and several other painters from the same class, Susan formed the Ocean View Art Group. The group still meets weekly and holds regular exhibitions. Inspiration for subjects often comes from the wonderful flora and fauna of her adopted country. Seagulls, sunsets, beaches and the Pekin ducks and different varieties of chooks which roam around the family garden are a constant source of subject matter. Successful sales at numerous art shows and exhibitions have provided the opportunity for her paintings to be displayed permanently at the Joondalup City Hotel, the Valley View Restaurant in the Swan Valley and the Mean Bean Café at Bullsbrook. Susan was accepted into the Watercolour Society of WA in 2008 and is also a member of the West Australian Society of Arts.
