Richard first studied art at Chartesey in London,mainly pen & ink work while studying draughtsmanship, which he never took up, instead went into the Film Industry working on films and TV series. He only began painting watercolour in 1995. Richard has been an active member of many Art groups and has participated in workshops by Robert Wade, Rex & Joan Knight, Graham W Smith also demonstrations by Birgit O'Conner.
Richard is a member of the Watercolour Society of WA and the Rockingham Watercolour Society WA and a member of the Melville Community Arts Association also past member of the Queensland Watercolour Society. Richard and his family have lived in Australia for 44 years living in Western Australia for 28 years. Richard treats painting as a hobby, but finds time to give workshops for beginners. He has written Art tips for the 'Watercolor Magic'' (U.S.A) & “Leisure Painter” (U.K.) Richard has won 38 art awards, including Best overall at the Minnawarra Art Festival, 1st. Prize at the Dr. Edward Koch Art Awards,2002. 2003. 1St, Prize waterclour Cooktown, 2003. 1st. Prize watecolour, Gin Gin (Qld) 1st.Prize watercolour Townsville Art show 2004. Best watercolour Rockinham Art Awards 2005. Best watercolour City of Stirling Art Awards 2007. Best watercolour Dalwallinu 2007 Art Awards. Highly commended Hedland Art Awards 2007. Peoples choice award, Continence service Inaugral Art Award 2007. Best watercolour Dunsborough Lions Art Show 2008. and has had 7 succesful Solo Exhibitions in WA & Far North Queensland. Richard also helped Rex & Joan Knight run “Estate Gallery” in Dunsborough, also as artist in residence occasionally. And is Past President of the “Dunsborough Art Society”. His Paintings hang in homes and Galleries across the world, in the UK, U.S.A Canada, Japan, Bermuda and most Australian states, and Territories, also have been purchased by local Councils that are presented as gifts to visiting dignitaries.
