Contact Details Gallery (Click to view paintings) Biography  Sandy has a recognisable style of painting in watercolour which embraces the true watercolour look while at the same time being colourful and contemporary. Her painting career has included painting and teaching in local, interstate and overseas venues and winning numerous awards for watercolour in her state of Western Australia. Her subjects include landscapes, beach scenes, buildings, cityscapes and flowers. Many of these subjects are painted on-location using an easel in an almost vertical position to let the paint and water flow freely which contributes to her relaxed style.
Sandy’s method of painting is to lightly sketch the subject then apply watercolour colour in patches to capture the light of the scene, thin washes are applied in layers to build up volume.
In 2006 fellow artist Shirley Winstanley and Sandy were resident artists in Bivongi, Italy. In 2007 she co-tutored with Penny Madison, a group of painters to the Aegean Islands, Greece and on to Turkey 2008 workshops incl. South Australia, Pt Wolstoncroft NSW, Rottnest Island W.A. and Munich Germany in November.
Sandy is dedicated to promoting watercolour, she has membership with the Watercolour Society Of W.A. Canning Arts Group, Melville Community Arts Assn and Alfred Cove Art Society. |
