Contact Details Gallery (Click to view paintings) Biography  Sue was born in Perth Western Australia in 1963 and is married with two children. At an early age, Sue was encouraged to draw and paint by her father Lawrence Hibbert. Many weekends were spent walking in the Darling ranges and observing the unique diversity of the bush. These observations and early lessons have remained as inspiration for her paintings today.
Career choices were made in the creative fields. Sue completed a Diploma in Fashion Design from Bentley Technical College in 1982. Six years of working in the industry included a period of self employment and Fashion Illustrating. During this time Sue attended evening classes in painting and drawing. In 1988 Sue made a career change and completed further studies gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from Curtin University majoring in Graphic Design. Sue won the ACIAA John Lunghi Award for second year Graphic Design and The Guide Dog Association poster competition. After graduating in 1990 Sue commenced employment as an Art consultant and freelance Graphic Designer. Since marriage and starting a family Sue has pursued her passion for painting. After experimenting with a variety of mediums Sue has specialized in watercolour. According to Sue “painting is a journey”. My aim is not to paint things exactly as I see them but rather to capture a mood, using expressive washes of colour,texture or contrasts. I find the watercolour medium exciting, challenging, fresh and capable of beautiful effects. Sue has won many awards for her painting including 1st prize best water based media Morawa Art Festival 1st prize best water based media Beverley Art gallery purchase exhibition, Category of watercolour Winner City of Melville Art Awards 1st prize Best Watercolour South Perth Society of Arts & Craft Heritage Exhibition MCAA Awards colour award. Sue teaches watercolour painting and enjoys sharing her knowledge of the medium.
