Cass GARTNER - Watercolour Society of WA Inc

I was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia, now Harare, Zimbabwe – a once beautiful country and immigrated to Australia in 1987.

As a young woman, one of my first jobs was working for the Advertising Department of a Department Store in Salisbury before going on to work for several different Advertising Agencies. In 1980 I moved to South Africa and gained work with BBDO in Johannesburg (a reputable Advertising Agency).

Having arrived in Perth I was very busy with my young family and several years passed before I began to take my art seriously. I took numerous courses over the years, including watercolour courses at Bathurst with Alvaro Castagnet, Charles Sluga and Joseph Zbukvic. I have also been lucky enough to study watercolours with Amanda Hyatt and Tony Smibert here in Perth. Herman Pekel has travelled to Perth several times and although his courses were Acrylic, they were highly informative and great fun.

I have exhibited locally and regionally for many years now and have held a solo exhbition at the Oceanus Restaurant, City Beach and a joint one with a fellow artist at Tresillian Community Centre, Nedlands.
